Screening, explained

What a health screening in Singapore actually covers

Most screening pages list tests. This one explains what those tests are looking for, how often you need them, and what happens on the day — so you can choose a package on evidence rather than on price alone.

How often should you screen?

Screening frequency depends on age, sex, personal risk, family history and previous results. National guidance is applied to the individual rather than treated as one fixed schedule for everyone.

20sBaseline
Individualised interval

Establish a baseline: blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol, glucose. Add cervical screening from age 25 for women, and hepatitis B status if never tested.

30sWatch
Individualised interval

Metabolic risk starts to show. Add liver and kidney function, thyroid and iron studies. Optional longevity testing can be discussed separately from guideline-based health screening.

40sAct
Individualised interval

Review cardiovascular risk and age- and risk-appropriate cancer screening. Mammography and other cancer screening should follow current Singapore guidance and individual risk. Routine tumour-marker panels are not a substitute for evidence-based screening.

50sReview
Individualised interval

Add colorectal screening (FIT annually or colonoscopy every 10 years) and bone density where indicated. Hormone testing is added when symptoms, history or clinical findings make it relevant rather than as a universal screening panel.

60+Review
Individualised interval

Full executive panel plus vision, hearing, cognition and frailty screening. Medication review alongside results, since interactions matter more with age.

If you have diabetes, hypertension, raised cholesterol, or a first-degree relative with cancer or heart disease, screen more often than the interval shown for your age band.

What Screening Tests Your Screening May Include

Our Health Screening Packages and Options

How Our Health Screening Process Works

Getting results doesn’t require complexity. Our process respects your time while delivering thorough assessments. Patients can request or opt for additional tests or consultations when booking their health screening appointment, and our clinic staff will assist with these requests.

Step 1: Consultation with doctor

Schedule your health screening appointment through our simple online system with flexible timing options. Choose from basic to comprehensive screening packages to screen once a year in most cases, tailored by your age, gender, and family history. Cardiovascular and chronic risk checks are commonly recommended from age 40 onward. You’ll receive pre-screening guidelines and preparation instructions immediately—including fasting requirements and what to bring.

Step 2: Screening (1–2 hours)

Arrive at our clinic for your screening tests using medical-grade equipment. Your visit includes:

  • Detailed blood tests covering liver function, high cholesterol markers, diabetes indicators, and more

  • Cardiovascular screening including x ray and ECG as needed

  • Specialized tests based on your risk profile and eligible tests for your demographic, such as the HPV DNA test for women, which is used for cervical cancer screening and detects the presence of human papillomavirus—a virus that can lead to cervical cancer; women aged 50 and above may also be advised to schedule a mammogram at selected screening centres or polyclinics

  • One-on-one consultation with experienced medical professionals who review your results in real-time

Common tests in health screening packages include cardiovascular risk assessments, cancer screenings, including annual colorectal cancer screening from age 50 with the Faecal Immunochemical Test (FIT), and various blood and urine tests.

Many chronic conditions, including diabetes and high blood pressure, may not show symptoms at an early stage, which is why screening matters.

Most complete screening appointments take 1½-2 hours, depending on your package—significantly faster than navigating public healthcare facilities.

Step 3: Results review with recommendations

Receive your comprehensive medical report within 7-10 working days, with many basic results available same-day. Your report includes:

  • Clear interpretation of all test results

  • Personalized recommendations for health optimization

  • Risk assessment based on your health profile

  • Optional follow up consultation and treatment planning

If abnormalities are detected, we provide immediate guidance on next steps, including specialist referrals when necessary; if a chronic condition is diagnosed, you should continue regular follow-up and monitoring with your doctor. Prompt follow-up, in line with the Healthier SG Screening programme, helps facilitate early intervention for various diseases.

Health screening in Singapore: your questions answered

Straight answers on cost, fasting, frequency and results — reviewed by our medical team at 160 Robinson Road.

How much does a health screening cost in Singapore?

Health screening in Singapore generally ranges from around S$100 for a basic panel to over S$2,000 for an executive package with imaging. At Aquila Medical Center, screening packages are tailored to you and based on your budget, and every package includes a face-to-face review of your results with a doctor rather than an emailed report.

How often should I go for a health screening?

Most healthy adults should screen every one to two years from age 40, and annually from age 50. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, raised cholesterol, or a family history of heart disease or cancer, your doctor may recommend screening every six to twelve months instead.

Do I need to fast before a health screening?

Yes — fast for 8 to 10 hours before your appointment. Plain water is fine, and you should continue your usual medications unless we tell you otherwise. Fasting is needed for accurate glucose and cholesterol readings. Book a morning slot so you can eat immediately after your blood draw.

How long does it take, and when do I get my results?

The appointment itself takes about 45 to 60 minutes. Standard blood and urine results are ready in [3 to 5] working days. Specialised tests such as biological age or gut microbiome analysis take [2 to 3] weeks. Every report is explained in a dedicated results consultation.

Can I use MediSave or insurance for health screening?

Unforunately we do not accept MediSave currently as some of our tests require to be sent out to overseas for processing . However, many corporate benefit plans and private insurance plans include an annual screening allowance. Bring your policy details or employer letter and our team will confirm what applies before you commit to a package.

What is the difference between a basic and an executive screening?

A basic screening covers blood pressure, full blood count, glucose, cholesterol, and liver and kidney function. An executive screening adds cancer markers, thyroid and hormone panels, cardiac assessment and imaging, plus a longer doctor review. Choose executive if you are over 40 or want a baseline to track yearly.

What is biological age screening, and how is it different?

Biological age screening measures how well your body is functioning, not how many years you have lived. We combine blood biomarkers, body composition and organ-system scoring into a single biological age figure plus the modifiable drivers behind it. It is designed to be repeated so you can track change over time.

Can I screen in Singapore if I am visiting from overseas?

Yes. We regularly screen visitors from Indonesia, Malaysia and across the region, and the clinic visit can usually be completed in a single morning at Robinson Road in the CBD. Your doctor's review can then be delivered by teleconsultation after you fly home, with a written report.

Not sure which package fits? Tell us your age, family history and what you want to rule out — we will recommend the right level of screening before you pay.

Guidelines and further reading

Screening recommendations depend on age, sex, family history and existing conditions, and national guidance is the appropriate starting point. The sources below are where the underlying recommendations come from.

  1. Singapore HealthHub — Screen for Life national screening programme, covering nationally recommended screening by age and sex.
  2. World Health Organization — Cardiovascular diseases fact sheet.
  3. StatPearls, NCBI Bookshelf — Positive and Negative Predictive Value, on interpreting screening results.
  4. US National Cancer Institute — Overdiagnosis in cancer screening.

A note on interpretation: no screening test is perfect, and a result outside a reference range is not automatically a diagnosis. Borderline findings sometimes lead to further tests that turn out to be unnecessary, which is one reason screening is best chosen for your risk profile rather than by picking the largest available panel.
